Dear Friends,
My name is Shannon del Prado and I am running for Village Council Seat #3.
I want to thank each of you who has taken the time to read these emails. It has been encouraging to me to have this direct line with you, where we can talk about issues that have substance and I can also get feedback about what you are thinking! My hope is this will continue if I am lucky enough to be elected to our Village Council.
Being at the Pinecrest Library every day has given me a chance to safely greet many of you as you come to vote, and I wanted you to know a little about the people you may see with me. My parents, Sandy and Guido, are pictured above. It has been very touching to see them out there every day, holding signs – rain or shine. Both of them instilled in me a spirit of service early on; they met when my mother was in the Peace Corps, and my father went on to have a decorated career in the United States Foreign Service. The idea of serving causes larger than yourself was always the example they gave, and it’s been very powerful to see that come full circle with them volunteering for my own local race!
YOUTH
My children and their friends have been hugely helpful. Both my daughters are students at Palmetto Senior High, and I have been so inspired by seeing the young people who choose to show up – helping out at the polls, recording videos, helping put up signs, whatever may be needed. It was always important this campaign be family friendly to me, and I am pleased that we have had volunteers ranging from senior citizens to the very young!
FRIENDS
And I am so deeply grateful for our friends who have shown up over and over! From the beginning people have given selflessly, and shown the very best of our Pinecrest spirit. These times have been trying for all of us, but so many of keep showing up. Didi. Christi. Raquel. Jenna. Annie. Claudia. Maria. Motor. Becky. Maria. Richard. Patricia. Maryka. Daiana. Frank. Juan. IN CLOSING
Parents. Family. Young people. Friends.
In other words: Community.
We started this campaign wanting to make it about Pinecrest, and always about Community. I am proud after a year and through a pandemic that we have kept it that way. And we are so grateful to you: you have spoken with us safely at your doors; you have read our emails; you have greeted us at the Pinecrest Farmers Market and now at our library to vote. Whatever the outcome, this campaign has made clear that Pinecrest is a community worth serving, and this seat is one worth running for.
Committed to our Community,
Shannon Del Prado
